Hvordan vælger man advokat?
Man skal sikre sig at advokaten er medlem af Advokat Skolen (Colegio oficial de Abogados) og bede om vedkommendes registeringsnummer. Dette nummer gives fra fakultetet hvorfra advokaten er færdiguddannnet, og vil også vise at jo lavere nummeret er, jo længere har advokaten været kvalificeret som sådan.
De fleste af vores klienter er blevet introduceret til os fra andre tilfredse klienter. Vi har en stor velrennomeret ejendomsmægler kreds, der anbefaler os, og som ved at vi er uafhængige og kun agerer i vores kunders interesse. Vi har også anbefalinger fra bank direktører og andre professionelle firmaer.

We have been looking for a property in Spain since January 2002. We started in Alicante and worked our way down the coast to Cadiz using all of my holidays from work. We read all the books and watched all of the “A place In the Sun” programmes. One thing became very clear; GET A GOOD LAWYER, one that will work for you. It wasn’t until October 2003 that we settled on our preferred location, Motril. Having found the property we needed a LAWYER. Panic set in. Where do we find an English speaking lawyer, in what is a very Spanish area? Had it been further down the coast near Malaga, no problem, but Motril! We were very lucky in that we stopped at Almunecar for coffee, where we were directed to the local free paper. Within this there was an article on a firm of Abogado’s, Velasco Lawyers. This company has an English secretary and an English speaking Abogado, the perfect combination. Whilst not working in the same way as an English lawyer, they have steered us through the buying (using a Power of Attorney), banking and Will process. They have also sent communications on our behalf where we found it difficult to reach Spanish companies. Well done Velasco Lawyers.!

When buying a property in Spain I was told by many people how important it is to find a good lawyer. To us Brits, this means one who speaks good English and, just as important, understands our culture……which is VERY different when it comes to buying and selling houses. I was lucky……but only on my 3rd lawyer! By the time I was introduced to Marie-Teresa I was very stressed, having been pretty much ignored by 2 other Spanish lawyers I had signed-up with. The casual attitude which is very Spanish can be very worrying when you are parting with large sums of money and signing contracts for larger sums of money, giving a power of attorney, yet not being entirely sure of what is happening. Thankfully, Marie Teresa made me feel very confident that my business was in the right hands and matters became straightforward. Well, as straightforward as they can be buying a house in Spain. They are efficient, friendly and sympathetic and you have no doubt that they will fight your corner, if need be. And communicate clearly to those of us whose Spanish is not yet as proficient as we would wish, so we understand fully what is happening .A stressful experience is made much less so. I recommend Velasco Lawyers to anyone buying in Costa Tropical or Granada. Instruct your lawyer, let them take the worry out of the situation, draft a Power of Attorney, and then be free to get on with other important things.
When we bought our house in Almunecar, we were told that in Spain it wasn’t absolutely necessary to use a solicitor but we decided it was better to have one. We haven’t regretted that decision. Maria Teresa really smoothed the way for us. It took less than two months from having our offer accepted to moving in. As well as handling the transaction, they dealt with changeover of the utilities and are still helping us with the inevitable problems which arise from time to time. They also drew up our Spanish wills. Our Spanish was non-existent, so the fact that Maria Teresa is fluent in English and Spanish was a huge help. A Brit abroad without the grasp of the local language is so vulnerable. After many years at the peak of my profession I thought I was capable of almost anything, until I arrived here in Spain. Anyone who tries to buy or sell a property in Spain with out a lawyer’s services must have more money then sense. The process is full of pitfalls delays and frustration. We were advised to contact Maria Teresa Velasco and her team by an estate agent and will always be grateful for that advice.
