About Velasco Lawyers

Velasco Lawyers is an independent Spanish law firm in Almuñécar (Granada), founded by abogada Maria Teresa Velasco in 1993. We advise international clients — residents, non-residents and people abroad with property or interests in Spain — on property, inheritance, family law, tax and litigation, in their own language, across Spain.

Our story

Maria Teresa Velasco opened the firm in Granada in November 1993, working first in family law. Through her passion for scuba diving and sailing she came to know the diving and boating businesses on the coast, and through them the foreign residents who were buying property there and needed a Spanish lawyer who worked in English. Business, tax and accounting advice and marine law followed; then conveyancing for English-, Scandinavian- and French-speaking buyers.

In 2002 the firm moved to the coast, to Almuñécar on the Costa Tropical, where it has been since. Today most of our clients live outside Spain and we act for them by power of attorney, email and video call, from the Costa Tropical and Costa del Sol to anywhere in Spain.

How we work

  • Partner-led. Maria Teresa leads every file from the first meeting to the end of the case. You deal with a lawyer, not a call centre.
  • In your language. Our case manager is fluent in Swedish, Danish, French, English and Spanish and follows your file with you day to day; your lawyer works with you in English or Spanish.
  • At a distance when needed. With a power of attorney signed before a Spanish notary or consulate, we can buy or sell, accept an inheritance or obtain a NIE for you without your travelling.
  • Written quote first. After a first discussion you receive our client questionnaire and terms, including the fee structure, before any work starts.
  • Solicitor and barrister in one. As abogados we advise and represent you in court at every level.
